Case Study: Allied Health Symposium

Event Overview

Dementia Training Australia (DTA) recently hosted its inaugural Allied Health Symposium — a new national event designed to unite allied health professionals with a shared commitment to improving dementia care. The symposium offered a powerful platform to share evidence-based practices, explore innovative strategies, and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across the sector.

Held in Adelaide, the one-day event brought together over 300 delegates for a thought-provoking conference, followed by a relaxed evening networking function. The program focused on person-centred care, non-pharmacological interventions, and practical tools to support people living with dementia — all delivered in a warm and collaborative environment.

Program Highlights

The symposium featured expert speakers across allied health disciplines, showcasing the latest research and real-world applications in dementia care. Presentations were supported by interactive discussions and engaging Q&A sessions, creating a dynamic exchange of ideas.

Adding a personal and engaging touch to the day was MC Hayley Lewis, whose warmth and professionalism set the tone for a welcoming and inclusive event.

Attendees also enjoyed a relaxing lunchtime Tai Chi session, designed to rejuvenate minds and bodies between sessions, as well as live music performed by talented students from the Master of Music Therapy program at the University of Melbourne.

The day concluded with a well-attended networking function that encouraged informal connection and professional collaboration - reinforcing the sectors passion for making a meaningful difference.
